In May 2009, I had the honor of serving as Artist-in-Residence at the Petrified Forest National Park in Arizona . This was my first of two Artist-in-Residence appointments this year with the National Park Service. The next will be a 6-week residency at Badlands National Park in South Dakota . While working in the Petrified Forest , I lived in a historic cabin originally built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930’s. The artist-in-residence cabin, located inside the park, was ideally located for early morning (4 a.m. ) departures to catch sunrises, and exploring areas deep within the park.
