The Nature Conservancy ~ Edge of Appalachia Preserve Ohio
Set in the foothills of the Appalachian Forest system, the Edge of Appalachia Preserve is a breathtaking landscape highlighting the dedication and hard work of The Nature Conservancy to protect and preserve America’s open spaces. With over 20,000 acres and 25-miles of hiking trails, it is home to one of the most biologically diverse areas of flora and fauna in the Midwest and a diverse variety of trees including chestnut oaks, Virginia pines, white pines and various types of oaks. To capture this photo I sat 90 minutes on a blanket long before dawn and waited with the hopes of photographing these deer I’d seen the day before in this clearing. Soon after sunrise they slowly appeared through a distant fog and I made this photo as the sun outlined their beautiful shapes and the warm colors of the forest grasses.
