The Nature Conservancy ~ Edge of Appalachia Preserve Ohio
Set in the foothills of the Appalachian Forest system, the Edge of Appalachia Preserve is a breathtaking landscape highlighting the dedication and hard work of The Nature Conservancy to protect and preserve America’s open spaces. With over 20,000 and 25-miles of hiking trails, it is home to one of the most biologically diverse areas of flora and fauna in the Midwest and a diverse variety of trees including chestnut oaks, Virginia pines, white pines and various types of oaks. To make this photo titled “Into the Light” I began a 2 1/2 hour long hike at 4:30 am to reach this location at sunrise. While waiting for over an hour a light fog began to build and soon afterward rays of sunlight cast this dazzling scene of a near monochromatic forest in the background along with deeply saturated grasses in the foreground.
