Description
Mirapossa Grove, Yosemite National Park.
A 1,700 year old Giant Sequoia tree provides shade and protection to a year-old 12″ tall sapling in Maripossa Grove at Yosemite National Park. From the time of fertilization, Sequoias take over two years to produce a seed and grow at the rate of about one foot per year. There are only a few hundred Giant Sequoias remaining in the US that are 2,000-3,000 years old. [Photo 6393]
